Did you love Daniel Polansky’s Tor.com Publishing novella The Builders but want to see the bloody escapades of the Captain and his company outside of your own imagination? Well, you’re in luck, because according to Hodderscape, Jurassic London is releasing a special hardcover edition of The Builders, featuring over a dozen illustrations by Howard Hardiman!
Polansky, for his part, sounds very excited:
Is it hyperbolic to say that the release of this special edition of The Builders is most exciting thing to happen to me in my career as a writer? If anything it is insufficiently so, since, really, this is the most exciting thing which has ever happened to anyone, ever, or at least since the first caveman showed the second caveman this fire thing he found out. THERE IS A PICTURE OF A BADGER WIELDING A MACHINE GUN. What more do I need to say, really?
Hardiman is no stranger to anthropomorphic animals; he’s the creator of The Lengths, collected comics about a male escort who’s also a dog. About his illustrations for The Builders, he said,
I’m never going to complain when someone comes to me asking me to draw cute animals doing strange things. A fox dressed as Mae West? Billy the Kid as a mouse? An opossum sniper hanging from a tree with a poncho and a sombrero? Who could say no to varmints as pesky as these?
To give you an idea of what to expect, Hodderscape included one of Hardiman’s sketches:
This edition of The Builders is also a limited edition—only 75 copies, signed by Polansky. Starting in February, you can pre-order the book at Jurassic London’s website, with orders shipping in April.
